The latest Google app code indicates that the full shutdown of Gemini Gems has been seemingly pushed to November 17, 2026, with creation and editing privileges being disabled starting October 13, 2026. Existing Gems could also automatically convert to Gemini Spark-based Skills, saving users from having to manually recreate their setups. Google is preparing to phase out Gemini Gems and replace them with Gemini Spark-based Skills. An earlier deprecation message suggested a cut-off date of October 20, but it seems Google plans to give users some reprieve with a multi-stage timeline and a migration plan.
