TL;DR
  • OpenAI is restoring five-hour usage limits on ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus subscribers.
  • The limits will allow OpenAI to manage its resources and continue offering generous weekly usage.
  • The five-hour limits are currently not applicable to ChatGPT Pro users.

If you’ve been experimenting with ChatGPT Work and Codex and exploring the possibilities they unlock, you might need to slow down a bit. While OpenAI had removed the five-hour limits on ChatGPT Work and Codex following the release of GPT-5.6, the company is now bringing those limits back.

In a post on X, Thibault Sottiaux, OpenAI’s head of Codex and ChatGPT, announced that users with a ChatGPT Plus subscription will once again have five-hour limits across ChatGPT Work and Codex starting August 25.
