How does the new agent mastery system in VALORANT work? Lord icons, agent IDs

Recently, the VALORANT community has been asking for new mastery rewards, and Riot Games has listened. In the game’s next patch, Agent Mastery will be completely overhauled, and several new features will be added. Here’s everything you need to know.
VALORANT is overhauling its Agent ownership system
Since VALORANT’s launch, the Agent Mastery system has remained largely unchanged. Aside from unlocking pistol skins, sprays, and cosmetic items, players’ Agent Mastery had little impact on gameplay and was difficult to adapt to other players.
Now that’s all changing: VALORANT Patch 13.06 completely overhauls Agent Mastery and adds a host of new features. Players will gain access to two different level tracks, new Lord badges, and a customizable Agent ID for each character. Here’s a quick overview of all the changes.
When will Agent Mastery be reset in VALORANT?
The planned Agent Mastery change will go live on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. It’s part of VALORANT Patch 13.06, one of the final updates before Champions Shanghai. After that, all previous Agent Mastery progress will be reset. Players will retain all rewards earned prior to the change.
Lifetime Levels vs. Activity Levels in VALORANT Agent Progression
The new system will split Agent progression into two separate tracks. Lifetime Levels remain permanent, tracking the total time spent on an Agent throughout your entire VALORANT history. Old cosmetic Agent gear items will be moved to the Lifetime Level track, so players will need to accumulate time spent playing that specific Agent to unlock these rewards. Everything you’ve already earned remains in your inventory, and Kingdom Credits will continue to be usable for future gear purchases.
However, Act Levels reset at the start of each Act. This means players will need to complete a new competitive game each season to keep their profile up to date. Act Levels provide a more current and detailed snapshot of a player’s skill as an Agent.
Lord Agent icons are being added to VALORANT
If you’re familiar with the Lord icons in Marvel Rivals, a similar concept is now coming to VALORANT. High Act levels unlock a temporary portrait enhancement for each Agent, which is displayed to everyone in the lobby when selecting an Agent. The VALORANT version resets with each Act and does not remain permanently. This gives experienced or dedicated players the opportunity to apply their skills to a specific Agent in-game. Hopefully, this will also help break the common three-way ties between Reyna’s insta-kills.

VALORANT Agent IDs
Patch 13.06 also introduces Agent IDs—a new customization feature that lets you personalize your favorite agents. Players can equip modules such as stands, backgrounds, and trackable stats. You can display your Agent ID throughout the game.
What else is coming in VALORANT Patch 13.06?
The same patch will introduce a new automatic rifle called the Warden, designed for more powerful ADS gameplay and longer range without requiring a full-fledged sniper rifle. Check out our in-depth guide to the weapons. Riot is also launching Gauntlet: Glitched, a new tournament-style mode.
