Kostiuk defeated the former world No. 3 and advanced to the round of 32 at the 2026 U.S. Open

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk (WTA No. 11) advanced to the round of 32 at the 2026 U.S. Open.
In the second round, the Ukrainian defeated former world No. 3 and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens (USA, WTA No. 209) in two sets.

In the second set, Kostyuk saved a set point in the 10th game on her serve.
Marta played her second head-to-head match against Stephens. Two weeks earlier, Kostyuk defeated Sloane in the round of 32 at the Cincinnati 1,000-point tournament.
Kostiuk kicked off the 2026 US Open with a victory over Storm Hunter. Her next opponent will be the winner of the match between Kimberly Birrell (Australia, WTA No. 71) and Ekaterina Aleksandrova (WTA No. 19).
This marks Marta’s seventh appearance in the main draw of a U.S. Grand Slam and her fourth time—and third consecutive year—reaching the third round. Her best result to date was reaching the round of 16 last season.
Kostyuk became the first Ukrainian player to reach the round of 32 at the 2026 US Open. Elina Svitolina, Yulia Starodubtseva, and Oleksandra Oliinykova are also continuing their campaigns in New York.
