Man Utd legend comes to Foden's defense: "Fernandes is the aggressor"

Former Manchester United player Roy Keane shared his take on Phil Foden’s red card in the Manchester derby during Matchday 4 of the Premier League.
In the former player’s opinion, the referee should not have shown Foden a red card. Keane believes that Bruno Fernandes was the one who initiated the altercation, even though he played the role of the victim in the incident.
Roy would have agreed with Foden’s ejection only if the referee had sent Bruno off the field.
Even with the red card, Manchester United couldn’t handle their archrival and suffered a 0-1 defeat.
“Bruno slides in, blatantly takes him down, and then even kicks him a bit while he’s lying on the grass. Foden gets up, reacts—and gets sent off.
As I understand it, this was classified as rough and aggressive behavior, but in my opinion, Bruno was the aggressor in this incident.
I have to say this openly. A few years ago, I was just as harsh in my criticism of Kyle Walker when he went down after a header. I really don’t think that was a red card for Foden, honestly.
Did the player give the referee a reason for a sending-off? Foden played a bit foolishly, but Bruno didn’t do any better.
If Bruno had gotten a red card for that incident and Foden had been let off, we’d be saying right now, “You know what, Bruno played stupidly and recklessly.”
All players are members of the PFA; they’re all part of the same union—they need to try to respect and look out for one another, not roll around on the field.
We saw Walker do this a few years ago during that header incident, and Bruno should have behaved better in this situation as well.
People talk about the tension and the importance of a big match, but you have to respect both your teammates and your opponents.
As for Foden—I don’t think that was a red card,” Roy said.
Keane is one of Manchester United’s legends. The midfielder devoted 12 years of his career to the “Red Devils,” playing for the club from 1993 to 2005.
While with the “Red Devils,” Roy played in 479 matches, scoring 51 goals and recording 41 assists. With Manchester United, Keane won 17 trophies, including the Champions League and seven Premier League titles.
