The 2026 Absolute World Championship. Oleg Doroshchuk in Budapest

On September 13, Budapest will host the final day of competition at the first-ever World Athletics Championships.
Ukrainian Oleg Doroshchuk will compete in the high jump. The competition begins at 8:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
Oleg Doroshchuk enters the competition as one of the top favorites. In March 2026, the Ukrainian won the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, with a jump of 2.30 m.
In 2025, Doroshchuk became the European indoor champion, setting a personal best of 2.34 m. At the 2024 European Championships, he won a bronze medal, and at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, he finished in sixth place (2.31 m).
During the 2026 summer season, Doroshchuk also won a Diamond League meet in Monaco with a jump of 2.32 m and took silver at the European Championships in Birmingham (2.30 m). His best result of the season is 2.33 m.
One of the Ukrainian’s main rivals will be American Juwan Harrison, who leads the world this season with a jump of 2.34 m. Harrison won silver at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, equaling his personal best (2.36 m).
Particular attention will be focused on Gianmarco Tamberi. The Italian Olympic and world champion returned to top form after more than a year-long break due to injury and won the 2026 European Championships, clearing 2.32 m. At the Diamond League meet in Silesia, he cleared 2.31 m.
Poland’s Mateusz Kolodziejski is also a dangerous rival. He recently scored a sensational victory in the Diamond League final in Brussels, clearing 2.28 m on his first attempt. His season’s best is 2.30 m.
Also competing in the final will be Jan Štefela of the Czech Republic, the reigning World Championships bronze medalist; Taeus Wilson of the United States; Eric Portillo of Mexico; and Romain Beckford of Jamaica. All of them have cleared at least 2.30 m during the 2026 season.
