Real Madrid defeated Olympiacos and became the first-ever Super Cup champion

On Saturday, September 19, the final of the first-ever EuroLeague Super Cup took place in Dubai, UAE, between Greece’s Olympiacos and Spain’s Real Madrid.
The game got off to an even start, but midway through the first quarter, Real went on an 8-0 run to pull ahead by 10 points—22-12. Thanks to this, the Madrid team won the first 10-minute period 24–15.
In the second quarter, Real maintained its lead, but Olympiacos gradually closed the gap and went into halftime trailing by 4 points—43–47.
At the start of the third 10-minute period, the Greeks went on a 7–0 run to take the lead, 50–47. After that, the game evened out, with both teams trading baskets and preventing each other from making a decisive run. As a result, Real Madrid held a mere three-point lead—75–72—going into the final quarter.
The Spaniards opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run, pulling ahead by 10 points—82-72. After that, Real kept their opponent within two or three shots, but with two and a half minutes left on the clock, Fournier hit a three-pointer and cut OLI’s deficit to three points—86–89.
The game came down to the wire, and Evan hit another three-pointer to cut the deficit to two points—89–91— but Feliz responded with a clutch two-pointer to seal the final score at 93–89 in favor of Real Madrid.
Luwawu-Cabarrot was the top scorer for the winners with 12 points, and in total, five Real Madrid players scored 10 or more points.
Real Madrid’s Ukrainian guard Maksym Shulga did not play in this game, but he will receive the trophy because he played in the semifinal against Dubai (98–95).
The Madrid club became the first-ever EuroLeague Super Cup champion and also avenged its loss to the Greek team in last season’s EuroLeague final (85–92).
